Elektrokardiogrammista (electrocardiogramist) is a health care professional who specializes in performing electrocardiograms (ECGs), recording the heart’s electrical activity, and assisting in its interpretation. The term is used in some Nordic and European contexts to describe a technician or clinician focused on cardiac electrical testing.

In clinical practice, their duties include preparing patients, positioning and attaching electrodes, selecting appropriate lead configurations, operating ECG equipment, and checking signal quality to minimize artifacts. They record resting 12-lead ECGs and may administer ambulatory monitoring setups, such as Holter or event monitors, and assist with stress testing under physician supervision. They can perform basic data analysis, annotate traces, and coordinate with physicians to ensure proper documentation and timely reporting. Infection control, patient comfort, and safety are essential aspects of the role.

Training and qualifications vary by country and health system. Typically, elektrokardiogrammists complete formal education in healthcare support roles—such as medical assistant, nursing, radiology, or cardiology technician programs—and then receive on-the-job training or certification. Some jurisdictions require licensure or formal certification to practice.

Work environments include hospitals, cardiology clinics, outpatient imaging centers, and long-term care facilities. Elektrokardiogrammists often operate as part of cardiology or diagnostic imaging teams, with work schedules that may include evenings, weekends, or on-call shifts depending on the facility’s needs.
