Electronization

Electronization is a term used in some scientific and technical contexts to denote the process of increasing the density of electrons in a material, device, or system, or more generally the adoption of electronic processes. It is not a standard term across most disciplines, and in many cases it is synonymous with related concepts such as electron injection, reduction, or digital/electronic transformation depending on context.

In solid-state physics and materials science, electronization occurs when extra electrons are introduced into a material, typically by doping or injection, creating n-type behavior. In semiconductors, donors supply electrons to the conduction band; recombination and scattering affect mobility. It contrasts with hole-dominated (p-type) conductivity. The term is used rarely; conventional language uses "doping" or "electron injection" and "charge carrier concentration."

In electrochemistry and redox chemistry, electron transfer during reactions constitutes electronization of species, as oxidants and reductants exchange electrons at interfaces. Electrochemical reduction increases electron density on a molecule; electrochemical oxidation removes electrons. These processes underpin batteries, corrosion, and catalysis.

In broader, non-scientific contexts, electronization has been used metaphorically to describe the transition to electronic or computerized processes within organizations or infrastructures, a usage that overlaps with electrification and digitalization rather than a precise scientific term.
