Elarias

Elarias is a fictional archipelago and sovereign state used in worldbuilding and speculative fiction. It lies in the eastern ocean of the imagined continent of Aestria and consists of seven main islands and numerous smaller islets. The coastlines vary from mangrove-fringed shores to cliff-backed inlets, and the climate ranges from tropical to temperate within its territory.

Geologically active, Elarias sits on a plate boundary that drives geothermal features. The central island rises to Elarian Peak, about 2,100 meters high. Surrounding reefs and protected marine areas support rich biodiversity, while forests on the highlands provide habitat for endemic species.

Settlement is described in medieval-era records, followed by the formation of a local confederation in the 16th century. In 1843 Elarias adopted a constitutional charter establishing a parliamentary republic. The state has since pursued coastal trade and sustainable development as its core strategic aims.

Elarias is governed as a parliamentary republic with a president as head of state and a prime minister as head of government. The legislature is bicameral, and the judiciary is independent. The economy centers on sustainable fisheries, eco-tourism, forestry, and renewable energy, with exports including timber, citrus, and spices.

Population is around four million. The official language is Elarian, with minority languages spoken in coastal towns. The society is largely secular, with diverse religious communities. Education and health care are prioritized, and cultural life emphasizes maritime heritage, music, and seafood cuisine.

Notable features include the Elarian Archipelago National Park, the cliffside town of Liras, and the Blue Gate reef, a protected marine monument. The Sea Festival, Harvest Drum, and local craft markets are prominent cultural events.
