Eingangsblocks

The Eingangsblocks are a section of the Olympic Stadium, located in Berlin, Germany. The stadium was inaugurated in 1936 for the Summer Olympics, held in that same year. The Eingangsblocks are a pair of grandstands that form the entrance to the stadium. They sit at the east end of the Main Stand and are almost identical in design to the end stands of the stadium.

The Eingangsblocks were built in a neoclassical style and feature an imposing design. Both structures have a pediment, adorned with a V-shaped motif, on top of their facade, which backs onto the upper tier of seating. Behind the Eingangsblocks, a banner sign crowns the part of the upper tier forming the stadium's sloping roof. Based on different viewpoints, one of the grandstands houses the Olympic bronze statue of a runner on the field; however, this feature only exists from some angles, as both grandstands have their right-hand side closed.

They were a last-minute affair, built in place to replace a main entrance planned to be supported by big propylon pillars during the Games. The construction work was completed within two weeks. Different literature sources list the entrances, the refurbishment of the Anschießbunker entrance, the hill north of the Main Stand or the exterior portals as well as small subterranean rear buildings to provide separate access to both Eingangsblocks, making this stadium like most other 1936 stadium to house its ticket stands in areas different of its overall steps for visitors.
