Eastwatch

Eastwatch-by-the-Sea, commonly known simply as Eastwatch, is a fortress of the Night's Watch at the eastern end of the Wall in the northern part of Westeros. It sits on the coastline where the Wall meets the sea, making it the easternmost major garrison along the Wall. Its primary purpose is surveillance and defense against threats approaching from the eastern frontier, including wildlings and, according to legend, the Others.

The fortress is a stone complex with towers, a gatehouse facing the sea, and provisions capable of supporting a sizable garrison. It maintains a harbor or landing area for ships or small boats and serves as a staging point for patrols into the eastern regions beyond the Wall. The garrison is staffed by members of the Night's Watch and commanded by a lord or captain who answers to the Night's Watch leadership.

Eastwatch has a long history as one of the oldest watch posts along the Wall and has played a key role in the Watch's eastern frontier. Notable figures tied to Eastwatch include various captains and overseers who led patrols and expeditions from the outpost; in the books, Denys Mallister is one of the well-known commanders associated with Eastwatch. The site is referenced repeatedly in both novels and the television adaptation as a critical logistics and intelligence hub for eastern operations.

In popular culture, Eastwatch is depicted as a rugged, sea-facing fortress emblematic of the Night's Watch's isolation and diligence. The name reflects its function as a forward watchpost guarding the eastern flank of the Wall.
