ETSIs

ETSI, the European Telecommunications Standards Institute, is a European standardization organization that develops globally relevant information and communications technology (ICT) standards. Established in 1988 by the CEPT (European Conference of Postal and Telecommunications Administrations) and now recognized by the European Union as a standardization body, ETSI coordinates the work of national standards bodies, industry players, and research organizations across Europe and beyond. The institute is headquartered in Sophia Antipolis, France.

ETSI's work is organized through technical committees and working groups that address fixed and mobile networks, cybersecurity, broadcasting, the Internet of Things, vehicular technologies, and satellite communications. Members participate in drafting documents that become European standards, designated as European Norms (ENs) or Technical Specifications (TSs). The standards development process includes proposal, drafting, member voting, public consultation, and final approval. ENs, when harmonized, can be referenced by EU directives and transposed into national law; TSs provide detailed specifications. ETSI makes many standards publicly available for free download on its website; some documents are sold or licensed for use.

ETSI standards underpin a wide range of technologies, including mobile network specifications coordinated with 3GPP, broadband access, cybersecurity, and interoperable IoT solutions. The organization also collaborates with international bodies such as ISO/IEC and ITU, and with global mobile standardization efforts. The term ETSIs is commonly used to refer to the standards produced by ETSI and their associated documents.
