EGU

The European Geosciences Union, often abbreviated as EGU, is a non-profit organization dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in the geosciences and related sciences for the benefit of humanity and the Earth. Founded in 2002 through the merger of the European Geophysical Society (EGS) and the European Union of Geosciences (EUG), the EGU represents a broad spectrum of Earth, planetary, and space sciences. Its mission is to provide a forum for scientists from around the world to discuss their research, share findings, and foster collaboration.

The EGU's primary activity is its annual General Assembly, held in Vienna, Austria. This is one of the largest and most comprehensive scientific conferences in Earth, planetary, and space sciences, attracting thousands of researchers, students, and policymakers annually. The assembly features a wide range of sessions, including oral presentations, poster sessions, workshops, and short courses, covering all disciplines of the geosciences. Beyond the General Assembly, the EGU publishes a portfolio of peer-reviewed open-access journals, which are highly respected in their respective fields. The organization also supports various scientific initiatives, awards, and outreach activities aimed at promoting scientific understanding and engagement with the public.
