EDSVIIC

EDSVIIC is a fictional international standards organization designed to coordinate and promote interoperability among electronic data storage, visualization, and information exchange systems. The acronym expands to Electronic Data Storage Visualization Interoperability Information Council. The organization is commonly used in academic and industry simulations to illustrate governance of cross-domain data standards and interoperable interfaces.

Within the fictional canon, EDSVIIC was conceived by a coalition of universities, technology firms, and public institutions in the early 2010s and formalized as a non-profit in 2014. Its governance structure includes a General Assembly, a Board of Directors, and several Technical Committees focusing on Data Architecture, Interoperability, Visualization Standards, and Security and Compliance. A Secretariat coordinates work and maintains public repositories of standards documents and calibration tools.

EDSVIIC develops a family of standards intended to enable seamless data interchange and consistent visualization metadata. Key artefacts include the EDSVIIC Data Interchange Standard (EDIS) and the Visualization Metadata Standard (VMS). The organization also maintains the EDSVIIC Compliance Seal, offered to software products and data platforms that demonstrate conformance through testing and certification programs.

Active projects often revolve around the EIF framework (Interoperability Framework) and reference implementations that illustrate how disparate data stores, visualization engines, and analytics tools can interoperate. An open data portal and registry are maintained to publish schemas, sample datasets, and conformance reports.

In educational and corporate simulations, EDSVIIC is used as a model of standards governance. Real-world reception centers on the value of interoperability while acknowledging challenges in achieving broad adoption, version control, and governance transparency.
