ECpumput

ECpumput is a fictional open-source software framework and data standard designed for ecological modeling, with an emphasis on grassland and pasture systems. It provides a modular environment for simulating water and energy balance, photosynthesis, growth, and carbon fluxes in grasses and related allies. The project aims to support reproducible analysis by standardizing data formats and model interfaces across climate, soil, and vegetation components. The name ECpumput is an informal designation used within the community and does not imply a single, universal expansion of an acronym.

Its architecture consists of modular, replaceable components: climate data ingestion, soil physics, a vegetation model for C3/C4 grasses, and management scenario specifications. It supports common data formats (NetCDF for gridded data, CSV/JSON for tabular inputs) and provides a programmatic API for simulation control and result extraction. A built-in visualization layer helps users inspect soil moisture, evapotranspiration, leaf area, and carbon fluxes. The framework emphasizes reproducibility, with versioned configurations, unit harmonization, and provenance tracking.

ECpumput originated from an international collaboration of ecologists, agronomists, and software engineers. Development is community-driven and hosted on an open-source repository, inviting contributions, peer review, and issue tracking.
