Duktiliteettisiä is an adjective in Finnish used to describe materials or behaviors that exhibit duktiliteetti, or ductility. In a scientific context it characterizes substances that can undergo substantial plastic deformation before fracture, which makes them workable and capable of absorbing energy without sudden failure.

Ductility is typically assessed in tensile tests by measures such as percent elongation at fracture and reduction of area, often referred to as indicators of ductility. Materials that are described as duktiliteettisiä usually show noticeable necking and a gradual transfer of stress as they deform, in contrast to brittle materials that fracture with little prior deformation. The degree of ductility depends on factors including temperature, alloy composition, microstructure, grain size, and strain rate. Higher temperatures or certain phase states can enhance ductility, while impurities or brittle phases can reduce it.

In practice, duktiliteettisiä materials are valued for formability and energy absorption. They are common among many metals, such as copper, aluminum, and many steels, which can be drawn into wires or shaped through forming processes like rolling, extrusion, and stamping. Ductility often trades off with other properties such as strength or hardness, meaning materials can be ductile yet not the strongest, or highly strong materials may exhibit limited ductility.

The concept is distinct from brittleness, toughness, and strength, though related. Understanding duktiliteettisiä properties is essential in design and safety assessments, particularly for structural components and components subjected to dynamic or impact loading.
