Duchennen

Duchennen is a fictional duchy commonly used in fantasy literature, world-building guides, and role-playing games. It does not correspond to any real-world polity. In most depictions, Duchennen is a landlocked, Central European–inspired territory, characterized by rolling hills, oak forests, and a network of rivers. It covers roughly 3,000 square kilometers and Brackenhall is the capital.

The government is typically a constitutional duchy within a loose federation, with a reigning duke or duchess, a small council, and a ceremonial court. Historically, it was founded in the 10th century by Duke Reinard I. It often acted as a buffer between larger powers and underwent reforms in late medieval and early modern periods. In many stories, it joins a wider federation while preserving ducal prerogatives.

The economy combines agriculture, timber, quarrying, and small-scale metallurgy. Trade routes along the Valen River link it to neighbors; the currency is a ducat. Culturally, Duchennen is depicted as bilingual or multilingual, with a Duchennic language blending Germanic and Romance features. Common motifs include chivalric orders, castles, heraldry, and seasonal festivals.
