Dsubliitännät, commonly known as D-sub connectors, are a family of electrical connectors characterized by their trapezoidal metal shielding. The name "D-subminiature" reflects their relatively small size, though larger versions exist. These connectors are widely used for data transmission and in various electronic devices. They feature two or more parallel rows of pins or sockets enclosed within a D-shaped metal shell, which provides mechanical polarization and helps prevent incorrect insertion. The "subminiature" designation originally distinguished them from earlier, larger subminiature connectors.

D-sub connectors come in a variety of configurations, denoted by a letter followed by a number, such as DE-9, DA-15, or DB-25. The letter indicates the shell size, and the number signifies the number of pins or sockets. For instance, DE-9 has a smaller shell and nine pins, while DB-25 has a larger shell and twenty-five pins. These connectors are typically secured by screws or clips, ensuring a stable connection. Their widespread adoption in early computing, particularly for serial ports (like RS-232) and parallel ports, contributed significantly to their ubiquity. While newer connector technologies have emerged, D-sub connectors remain in use in some legacy systems and specialized applications due to their robustness and familiarity.
