Drukowe

Drukowe is a Polish term used to describe letters and typography intended for printing rather than for handwriting. In everyday language and in education, litery drukowe (printed letters) refer to the standard forms used in printed texts, signs, and other media, as opposed to litery pisane (handwritten or cursive). The distinction is commonly taught in schools, where children first learn to read and write using drukowane litery before moving on to cursive writing.

In typography, the concept of drukowe encompasses fonts and typefaces designed for mechanical reproduction. Czcionki drukowe (print fonts) include both serif and sans-serif styles and are chosen for readability and clarity in printed media such as books, newspapers, packaging, and signage. Although digital technology has broadened the use of fonts to screens as well, the label drukowe remains rooted in the tradition of print production.

The term also appears in discussions of design and graphic communication, where it helps differentiate between text prepared for printed dissemination and handwritten or decorative letterforms. While the boundaries between print and digital typography blur in contemporary usage, drukowe continues to function as a practical descriptor for standard, non-handwritten letterforms in Polish.
