Front-wheel drive (FWD) is the most prevalent layout in modern passenger cars. In this system, the engine's power is sent to the front wheels, which both steer and provide traction. FWD vehicles are typically more fuel-efficient and have a more spacious interior due to the absence of a driveshaft running to the rear.

These systems typically have a more robust construction to handle the demands of off-road conditions.
