The term refers to a pattern created from numerous small dots arranged to form a shape reminiscent of a rose, featuring radial symmetry and petal-like contours. While often produced digitally, it can also be rendered by hand by plotting points along defined curves.

Core characteristics include concentric or spiraling dot grids, variable dot sizes, and color gradients that imply depth. The basic form may be derived from a rose curve or from a set of petal radii, with dots placed at regular or adaptive intervals. Variations may use nonuniform density to simulate shading or texture.

Creation methods range from procedural algorithms to manual plotting. Common approaches include generating polar coordinates and mapping dots along rose-curve paths, applying angular and radial steps, and adjusting spacing or jitter to add texture.
