Dokumenteeritus is a term used to describe a fictional condition characterized by an excessive, compulsive focus on documentation and record-keeping. In theoretical discussions and speculative fiction, it denotes a pattern in which individuals spend an inordinate amount of time producing notes, logs, and reports, sometimes across multiple media, at the expense of other activities. It is not an acknowledged medical diagnosis.

Common features include a persistent urge to document actions and decisions, repetitive or redundant entry of information, and anxiety or distress when documentation cannot be performed or shared. The behavior may be adaptive in some settings (improved traceability, accountability) but often results in reduced productivity, strained personal relationships, and impaired task completion.

Etiology in the concept of dokumenteeritus is not established in real-world medicine. In fictional or sociological discussions it is attributed to a combination of environmental pressures, such as bureaucratic work cultures, high compliance requirements, and the ready availability of digital tools, together with individual cognitive styles that favor externalizing memory through records.

In stories or analyses, it is described through interviews and workplace observations to differentiate it from related conditions like obsessive-compulsive traits or attention difficulties. There is no standard treatment protocol, but fictional narratives often propose approaches such as cognitive-behavioral strategies to reduce compulsive documentation, workflow redesign to reduce redundancy, and training in digital hygiene.
