Dividenditüüpi

Dividenditüüpi refers to the various ways a company distributes profits to its shareholders. There are generally two main types: cash dividends and stock dividends. Cash dividends are the most common, where a company pays out a portion of its earnings in cash directly to its shareholders. The amount is typically declared per share and paid on a specific date. This provides immediate income to investors.

Stock dividends, on the other hand, involve a company issuing new shares of its own stock to existing shareholders instead of cash. This is often done when a company wants to retain its cash for reinvestment or operational needs. While shareholders receive more shares, the total value of their investment may not immediately change, as the market price per share typically adjusts downwards to reflect the increased number of outstanding shares.

Another related concept is scrip dividends, which are similar to stock dividends but may offer shareholders the option to receive either additional shares or a cash payment. The purpose of dividend payments, regardless of type, is to reward shareholders for their investment and share in the company's profitability. Companies may also choose to issue special dividends, which are one-time payments made outside of the regular dividend schedule, often due to a significant event like the sale of an asset or an unusually profitable period. The decision on which type of dividend to issue is a strategic one for the company's management and board of directors.
