Diversitat

Diversitat, typically written diversitat in Catalan, denotes the quality or condition of having a variety of elements. In common usage the term covers both social and biological dimensions of plurality. In social contexts, diversitat refers to demographic, cultural, linguistic, and experiential plurality within a community, and to efforts to recognize, respect, and include that plurality in institutions, policies, and public life. In ecological or biological contexts, the term aligns with biodiversity—the variety of life in ecosystems, species, genes, and processes that contribute to resilience and function.

In policy and governance, diversitat is a central aim of diversity, inclusion, and equity initiatives. Policies framed around diversitat seek to counter discrimination on grounds such as race, gender, sexuality, disability, religion, or origin, and to ensure access to education, employment, and civic participation.
