Diskreettiaikainen

Diskreettiaikainen is a Finnish adjective used to describe phenomena, signals, or systems that exist or operate in discrete time rather than in continuous time. In signal processing and systems theory, diskreettiaikainen signaali refers to a sequence x[n] indexed by integers, representing samples taken at regular time steps.

In practice, sampling a continuous-time signal with period T yields a diskreettiaikainen signaali x[n] = x(nT). Diskreettiaikaiset järjestelmät can be described by difference equations and impulse responses h[n], and their output is obtained by convolution y[n] = x[n] * h[n]. For analysis, the discrete-time Fourier transform (DTFT) and the Z-transform are standard tools, enabling frequency-domain insight for discrete-time signals.

Key properties of diskreettiaikaiset järjestelmät include causality, stability, and linearity, especially in the context of discrete-time linear time-invariant (LTI) systems. Practical implementation takes place in digital hardware or software, where signals are stored as samples and processed through algorithms for filtering, compression, and modulation.
