Diskanttisäädin

Diskanttisäädin, often translated as treble control, is an audio electronic component used to adjust the level of high-frequency sounds in an audio signal. It is typically found in audio amplifiers, equalizers, and other sound processing equipment. The purpose of a diskanttisäädin is to selectively boost or cut the high frequencies, which are generally perceived as brightness, clarity, and presence in sound.

When a diskanttisäädin is adjusted to increase the treble, the higher harmonics of instruments and voices become more pronounced, leading to a brighter and more detailed sound. Conversely, reducing the treble can soften the sound, making it less sharp or harsh, which can be useful for taming sibilant vocals or overly bright recordings. The range of frequencies affected by a diskanttisäädin is typically above 2 kHz, though the exact frequency response can vary depending on the design of the circuit.

In a typical audio system, the diskanttisäädin is one of the basic tone controls, alongside the bass control (bassoäädin).
