Digitaltryck

Digitaltryck (Swedish for digital printing) refers to printing methods that transfer digital images directly to a variety of substrates without the need for traditional printing plates. Common technologies included under digitaltryck are inkjet and electrophotographic (laser) printing, as well as direct-to-garment and dye-sublimation processes for textiles.

The method is well suited to short print runs, on-demand production and personalization because it eliminates setup costs associated with plate-based techniques such as offset. Variable data printing allows individualized text and images within a single run, making digitaltryck popular for direct mail, labels, promotional materials and small-batch packaging. It also supports rapid proofing and quick turnaround times.

Materials printable by digitaltryck range from paper and cardboard to film, vinyl, fabric and certain rigid substrates. Image quality, color gamut and durability vary by technology and inks used; pigment-based inks typically offer greater lightfastness and water resistance than some dye-based options. Color management and substrate selection are important for consistent results.

Limitations include higher unit costs for very large runs compared with offset, potential constraints in color matching for spot colors, and variable performance on specialty materials. Environmental impacts depend on ink chemistry and media; many providers now offer recycled substrates, low-VOC inks and solvent-free options.
