Difuusiovirta, or diffusion flow, refers to the gradual movement of particles or molecules from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration within a medium, typically driven by random thermal motion. This process is a fundamental principle of physics and chemistry, governed by Fick’s laws of diffusion, which describe how substances spread over time in a given space.

In natural systems, diffusion occurs in gases, liquids, and solids, influencing phenomena such as the dispersion of scents, the mixing of gases in the atmosphere, and the transport of nutrients within biological tissues. For example, oxygen diffuses from the lungs into the bloodstream, while carbon dioxide moves in the opposite direction. Diffusion is also essential in environmental processes, such as the spread of pollutants in water bodies or the natural attenuation of contaminants in soil.

The rate of diffusion depends on factors including the concentration gradient, temperature, molecular size, and the medium’s viscosity. Higher temperatures generally increase diffusion rates due to greater molecular kinetic energy, while denser or more viscous substances slow the process.
