Diffijenciálzárak

Diffijenciálzárak, often translated as differential locks, are mechanical devices used in vehicles to ensure that both wheels on an axle receive torque, even if one wheel loses traction. In a standard open differential, if one wheel is lifted off the ground or encounters a slippery surface, it will spin freely while the other wheel receives no power. This renders the vehicle immobile. A differential lock mechanically bypasses the differential's internal gearing, forcing both wheels to rotate at the same speed.

There are several types of differential locks. The most basic is a manually engaged lock, typically operated by a lever or button inside the cabin, which the driver activates when needed. Automatic locking differentials engage automatically when they detect a difference in wheel speed, disengaging when both wheels are rotating at similar speeds. Electronic locking differentials use sensors and actuators to lock and unlock the differential, often controlled by the vehicle's computer.

Differential locks are primarily found in off-road vehicles and heavy machinery where maintaining traction in challenging conditions is crucial. They significantly enhance a vehicle's ability to climb steep inclines, traverse uneven terrain, and recover from situations where one or more wheels have limited grip. However, engaging a differential lock on high-traction surfaces, such as paved roads, can cause tire scrub, increased tire wear, and stress on the drivetrain, as it forces both wheels to turn at the same rate, which is not ideal for normal turning maneuvers. Therefore, they are generally intended for use at low speeds and in situations requiring maximum traction.
