Dicynodon
Dicynodon is a genus of dicynodont therapsids, a group of herbivorous synapsids that lived from the Late Permian to the Early Triassic. The name means “two dog teeth,” in reference to paired tusks that characteristically project from the upper jaw. Dicynodon is one of the most familiar dicynodonts, with numerous skulls and other fossils recovered from the Karoo Basin of South Africa as well as from other Gondwanan lands.
