DevEco

DevEco is Huawei's developer ecosystem and toolchain for creating software for HarmonyOS and related devices. The term encompasses official development resources, services, and tools used to build, test, and deploy HarmonyOS applications across a range of devices, including smartphones, wearables, TVs, in-car systems, and other Internet of Things products.

The central component of the DevEco ecosystem is DevEco Studio, an integrated development environment built on an IntelliJ-based platform. DevEco Studio provides code editing, user interface design, project management, and debugging capabilities, with access to HarmonyOS SDKs and emulators, as well as device tooling. The DevEco toolchain also includes accompanying utilities and documentation to support cross-device development, packaging, and distribution through Huawei's AppGallery.

History and scope: DevEco was introduced as part of Huawei’s HarmonyOS developer strategy in the early 2020s and has evolved with subsequent HarmonyOS releases, adding expanded device support and improvements to tooling and performance.

Platform reach: The DevEco toolchain runs on major desktop operating systems, including Windows, macOS, and Linux, and is designed to support developers targeting multiple HarmonyOS device categories, from mobile phones to Internet of Things devices and automotive systems.
