Desaturiert describes a state in which color intensity is reduced relative to maximum saturation. In color theory and digital imaging, desaturation is the process or result of lowering a color’s chroma, bringing it closer to gray. Saturation is a component in color models such as HSL and HSV; in these models, 0% saturation yields grayscale, while 100% saturation gives the most vivid color. A desaturated color appears duller, and when saturation is fully removed, the image becomes grayscale.

Desaturation can be applied globally, affecting all colors equally, or selectively, targeting specific hues to reduce their prominence while preserving others.
