Deklarations

Deklarations is a German term that appears most often as the genitive singular form Deklarations of the noun Deklaration, and as the stem used in many related compound nouns. It designates the act or result of declaring something—a formal statement, announcement, or expression of terms, conditions, or identity. The concept is widely used across legal, administrative, commercial, and technical contexts.

In law and politics, declarations are official statements that express a position, intention, or agreement. Examples include declarations of rights, declarations of policy, or declarations of independence. In international relations, declarations are commonly used to announce commitments or to document suspensions and recognitions. In administrative and bureaucratic settings, declarations often accompany filings with authorities to certify facts, origins, or compliance.

In trade, customs, and taxation, the term appears in compound forms such as Zolldeklaration (customs declaration) or Steuerdeklaration (tax declaration). These are formal documents submitted to authorities detailing goods, origins, values, or financial information required for regulation, tariff assessment, or compliance reporting. Deklarationen in labeling and consumer information describe what a product contains, its nutritional facts, ingredients, or other statutory disclosures.

In computing and software, the German-language term Deklaration is used to describe statements that introduce an identifier and its type, such as variable or function declarations. These declarations establish the existence and properties of entities without necessarily providing storage or full definitions, a distinction familiar in many programming languages.
