Deepstrike

Deepstrike refers to a strategic maneuver in tabletop wargames, most notably in Warhammer 40,000, where units are deployed from reserves directly into the battlefield, bypassing the usual deployment zones. This allows players to place units anywhere on the board, provided they adhere to specific in-game rules, such as maintaining a minimum distance from enemy units.

The primary advantage of a deep strike is surprise and the ability to threaten objectives or key enemy units that might otherwise be out of reach. It can be used to disrupt an opponent's plans, launch a swift assault on a vulnerable flank, or reinforce a struggling area of the battlefield. However, deep striking units are also vulnerable. They often arrive in exposed positions, making them targets for enemy fire or counter-attacks. Furthermore, many deep strike abilities are subject to chance, with dice rolls determining the exact arrival location or success of the deployment.

The implementation of deep strike varies greatly between different factions and game systems. Some units have innate deep strike capabilities, while others rely on special rules, psychic powers, or wargear to achieve a similar effect. Mastering the timing and positioning of deep strike units is a crucial aspect of advanced wargame strategy, often involving careful consideration of enemy army composition and deployment.
