Dataorienterte is a term used in Norwegian and Danish to describe approaches, systems, or thinking that place data at the center of decision-making, design, and operations. In English, it is commonly rendered as data-oriented or data-centric.

Data-oriented thinking emphasizes the availability, quality, and governance of data, as well as interoperability between data sources. It supports practices such as data modeling, data pipelines, metadata management, and analytics, with the goal of enabling accurate, timely insights and consistent data use across an organization.

In software engineering, data-oriented design focuses on how data is laid out in memory and how algorithms access that data. This can improve performance by enhancing cache locality and reducing indirection, and is often contrasted with object-oriented design. In practice, data-oriented approaches may use flat data structures, batch processing, and data-driven configuration.

Applications include enterprise data platforms, real-time analytics, and large-scale simulations. Benefits include improved performance, better data governance, and more scalable analytics. Challenges include the need for robust data governance, data quality management, and potential overemphasis on data handling at the expense of domain expertise.
