DSLlinjoja are digital subscriber line connections that provide broadband access over existing copper telephone lines. They rely on separating high-frequency data signals from the voice channel, allowing users to make telephone calls while online. The service is enabled by a network element known as a DSLAM (digital subscriber line access multiplexer) at the telecommunications provider's side and a customer premises equipment such as a modem or gateway at the user end. A splitter or filter is typically installed to keep voice traffic on the telephone line free from data signals.
