DIS1s

DIS1s, also known as Down Syndrome Intestinal Anomalies 1, refers to a group of gastrointestinal tract malformations that are more commonly observed in individuals with Down syndrome (Trisomy 21). These anomalies can range in severity and include conditions such as duodenal atresia, annular pancreas, malrotation with or without volvulus, and Hirschsprung disease.

The exact cause of DIS1s is not fully understood, but it is believed to be related to the genetic alterations present in Down syndrome. The extra copy of chromosome 21 is thought to disrupt normal embryonic development of the digestive system. While these conditions can occur in the general population, their incidence is significantly higher in individuals with Down syndrome.
