As a noun, a cure is an intervention or remedy that achieves recovery or eradicates a disease in a patient or population. In common usage, a cure implies a lasting resolution rather than short-term improvement.

In medicine, the possibility of a cure depends on the disease. Acute infections and some cancers may be curable with timely treatment; chronic diseases are often managed rather than cured. Proving a cure can be complex: remission may be temporary, relapse can occur, and what counts as a cure may vary by disease and clinical standards. At the population level, eradication refers to complete global elimination of a disease.
