Couveuses

Couveuses, also known as incubators, are specialized devices designed to provide a controlled environment for hatching eggs or for the care of premature or ill infants. The primary function of a couveuse is to maintain consistent temperature, humidity, and air circulation, mimicking the natural conditions required for the development of fragile life.

In the context of poultry and other egg-laying animals, couveuses automate the incubation process. They typically feature a heating element, a thermostat to regulate temperature, and a mechanism for turning the eggs, which is crucial for proper embryonic development. Some advanced models may also control humidity levels. This allows for a higher hatch rate and greater control over the hatching process compared to relying on natural incubation.

For medical applications, especially in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs), couveuses are indispensable. These infant incubators are sophisticated pieces of equipment designed to protect newborns who are unable to regulate their own body temperature. They offer a sterile, temperature-controlled environment, often with adjustable humidity and oxygen levels.
