Contraströrelse

Contraströrelse, also known as the Contra Movement, was a Swedish political party that existed from 1973 to 1991. The party was founded by a group of former members of the Swedish Social Democratic Party, who were dissatisfied with the party's left-wing policies and sought to create a more centrist alternative. The party's name, Contraströrelse, translates to "Countercurrent" in English, reflecting its position as an alternative to the mainstream political parties of the time.

The party's platform was centered around social democracy, with a focus on economic liberalism and social conservatism. It advocated for a strong welfare state, but also for a more flexible labor market and a reduction in government intervention in the economy. The party also supported a more traditional family structure and opposed abortion.

Contraströrelse never gained significant electoral success, and it was dissolved in 1991. The party's legacy is often seen as a precursor to the Moderate Party, which was founded in 1909 and has since become one of the two major political parties in Sweden. The Moderate Party shares many of the same policies and values as Contraströrelse, including a commitment to social democracy, economic liberalism, and social conservatism.
