Containerunit is a term used to refer to a modular, encapsulated unit designed to be deployed or transported as a single entity. The meaning varies by field: in logistics the term commonly refers to a standard shipping container; in computing it denotes a containerized software unit.

In shipping, container units are standardized by international standards such as ISO 668 for external dimensions and mounting in ships and terminals. The two most common sizes are 20-foot containers (1 TEU) and 40-foot containers (2 TEU), though larger and specialized sizes exist. A container unit is designed for stacking, intermodal transfer, and weather protection; it uses ISO corner castings to enable handling by cranes.

In software, a container unit is a lightweight, portable executable package that includes an application and its dependencies, isolated from the host system. Containerization uses OS-level virtualization through namespaces and cgroups. The unit is typically built as a container image, stored in registries, and run by a container runtime such as Docker or containerd. Orchestrators like Kubernetes manage many container units across a cluster. Containers emphasize reproducibility, portability, and efficient resource usage, but may introduce security considerations and require careful management of images and configurations.

In other contexts, container unit may refer to modular housing containers, field units, or data-storage units used in disaster response or temporary facilities.
