Conoscevo

Conoscevo is the first-person singular imperfect indicative form of the Italian verb conoscere, meaning I used to know or I knew. The imperfect is used to describe past states, habitual knowledge, or familiarity with people, places, or things rather than a single completed action.

Formation and forms: Conoscevo is formed from the infinitive conoscere by removing the -ere and adding -vo for the io form: io conoscevo. Other imperfect forms are tu conoscevi, lui/lei conosceva, noi conoscevamo, voi conoscevate, loro conoscevano. The imperfect contrasts with the passato prossimo, where conoscere is used as ho conosciuto to express a specific moment of having met or become acquainted.

It can indicate a state of knowing someone or something over a period of time, rather than a discrete event.
