Comprobables

Comprobables is a Spanish term used to designate propositions, claims, or hypotheses that can be verified or falsified through evidence, observation, or logical demonstration. The word comes from comprobar, meaning to verify or prove, and its plural form is comprobables. In everyday language, something comprobable can be checked or demonstrated with appropriate methods.

In scientific and philosophical contexts, comprobables are those statements that are testable in principle. A hypothesis is considered comprobable if it can be subjected to empirical observation or experiment, or to a rigorous logical analysis that could confirm or refute it. This contrasts with claims that are untestable or metaphysical, which lie beyond current means of verification. In practice, scientific theories are often described as comprobables to indicate that they make testable predictions, even though they may not be provable in an absolute sense.

A related distinction is between comprobable and probable. Probable refers to likelihood based on information, while comprobable emphasizes verifiability through evidence. In contemporary philosophy of science, the emphasis on comprobability interacts with the idea of falsifiability: a statement can be considered scientifically meaningful if it can be tested in ways that could conceivably show it is false, thereby increasing or decreasing its level of comprobación.
