Clioneista

Clioneista is a genus of small, marine animals that belong to the phylum Mollusca and the class Bivalvia. They are commonly known as tiny clams or wedge clams. These organisms are usually found in shallow, coastal waters and are often associated with algae, coral reefs, and other marine ecosystems.

The shell of Clioneista species is typically small, ranging in size from 1 to 5 millimeters in length. The shell is thin and delicate, comprising two hinged parts that can be opened and closed. The shape of the shell is wedge-like and symmetrical, with the ventral valve being larger than the dorsal one.

Two main species within the Clioneista genus are recognized: Clioneista linearis and Clioneista seductilis. Clioneista linearis is frequently found in intertidal zones, while Clioneista seductilis is more commonly encountered in subtidal areas.

Clioneista species are of interest to biologists due to their relatively small size and the limited information available about their behavior and ecology. Additionally, the shells of Clioneista species have been employed in paleontological dating.
