Cholesterolem

This condition is distinct from hypercholesterolemia, which refers to elevated levels of cholesterol in the blood without the presence of cholesterol crystals.

The term "cholesterolem" was coined by Dr. Robert C. O'Leary in the 1970s to describe a condition he observed in patients with severe atherosclerosis. Unlike hypercholesterolemia, which is often associated with a diet high in saturated fats and low in fiber, cholesterolem is not necessarily linked to dietary factors. Instead, it is thought to be related to genetic factors and other underlying medical conditions.

Cholesterolem is diagnosed through a combination of blood tests and imaging studies, such as ultrasound or angiography.
