Cartographient is a coined term used in discussions of collaborative mapping to describe the act of collectively creating and updating geographic maps through distributed contributions. It emphasizes participatory data collection, verification, and refinement, often enabled by online platforms, open-source software, and crowdsourced datasets.

The term derives from the French verb cartographier, meaning "to map," with the suffix -ent marking third-person plural. In English-language contexts, cartographient is used as a neologism to foreground the social process of mapping, though most writing substitutes phrases such as "map collectively" or "collaborative mapping."

Applications span humanitarian and disaster response mapping, urban planning, environmental monitoring, and community mapping projects. The concept is closely tied to open data movements, GIS, and digital humanities, where multiple actors contribute data points, annotations, and validation checks to produce a usable map.
