CVparsing

CVparsing, commonly called resume parsing, is the automated extraction of information from CVs or resumes to produce structured data that can be stored, searched, and analyzed by recruitment software. Its primary goal is to reduce manual data entry, improve data quality, and enable faster candidate screening and matching against job requirements.

Approaches include OCR for scanned documents, and NLP-based information extraction. Modern systems combine pattern matching with machine learning models, including named-entity recognition and relation extraction, to identify fields such as education and experience. Outputs are typically structured as JSON, XML, or CSV and can feed applicant tracking systems (ATS), CRM, or analytics tools.

Commonly extracted elements include personal details (name, email, phone, location), education (degrees, institutions, years), work experience (employer, role, start and end dates, responsibilities), skills and competencies, certifications, languages, and sometimes publications or awards. Some systems also capture salary expectations, visa status, or willingness to relocate, and attach a parsing confidence score.

Challenges include the diversity of CV formats, languages, and resume templates, inconsistent terminology, abbreviations, and multilingual or hybrid documents. OCR errors on scanned CVs and incomplete information affect accuracy. Privacy and data protection considerations, bias in extraction, and the need for human validation remain important.

Use and impact: CVparsing is widely deployed in ATS, recruitment platforms, and resume databases to enable fast search, ranking, and workflow automation. Effectiveness depends on training data, domain adaptation, and ongoing data quality checks.
