CURB65
CURB65 is a clinical prediction rule used to assess the severity of community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) and to guide treatment decisions. It is a simple scoring system that assigns points based on five clinical factors. Each factor present contributes one point to the total score. The five factors are: C - Confusion of new onset, U - Urea (blood urea nitrogen > 7 mmol/L or BUN > 19 mg/dL), R - Respiratory rate (30 breaths per minute or greater), B - Blood pressure (systolic < 90 mmHg or diastolic < 60 mmHg), and 65 - Age (65 years or older).
A CURB65 score of 0 or 1 generally suggests that outpatient treatment is appropriate. Scores of 2
The CURB65 score is valued for its simplicity and ease of use at the point of care,
