CTperfuusio refers to the assessment of blood flow within tissues using computed tomography (CT) imaging. This technique, often called CT perfusion imaging or CT angiography with perfusion (CTAP), involves injecting an intravenous contrast agent and then acquiring a series of CT scans over a short period. The contrast agent, which appears bright on CT scans, travels through the bloodstream. By tracking the density of the contrast agent in different areas of the tissue over time, CTperfuusio can quantify various hemodynamic parameters.

Key parameters derived from CTperfuusio include cerebral blood volume (CBV), cerebral blood flow (CBF), mean transit time (MTT), and time to peak (TTP). These measurements provide insights into the perfusion status of organs and tissues. For example, in the brain, CTperfuusio is widely used to evaluate patients with acute ischemic stroke. It helps to identify areas of compromised blood flow, distinguish between the ischemic penumbra (tissue at risk of infarction) and the infarct core (irreversibly damaged tissue), and guide treatment decisions such as thrombolysis.

Beyond stroke, CTperfuusio has applications in other areas of medicine, including the assessment of tumors, liver disease, and peripheral arterial disease. It can help characterize tumor vascularity, evaluate the extent of liver damage, and assess blood supply to limbs. The interpretation of CTperfuusio data requires specialized software and expertise to accurately derive and analyze the quantitative perfusion maps.
