CSAn

CSAn, the Cyber Security Analysis Network, is an international nonprofit that facilitates collaboration among researchers, practitioners, and policymakers to advance cyber security through information sharing and joint projects. It operates as a federation of regional chapters and project teams rather than a centralized regulator.

Founded around 2010–2012 by academics, industry engineers, and government partners, CSAn formalized existing coalitions into a persistent network. It expanded through regional chapters, working groups, and an open digital platform hosting repositories and events. Membership is open to individuals, universities, and organizations, with tiered contributions.

Governance is provided by a rotating council elected by members, with technical committees in threat intelligence, secure development, privacy and ethics, and evaluation. Activities include an annual conference, quarterly reports, and an open tool and dataset repository. The organization also runs a confidential incident-sharing platform for anonymized indicators.

Key initiatives include the Threat Atlas, aggregating observed threats; the Incident Exchange for indicators of compromise; and the Secure Coding Guidelines Repository. Projects emphasize cross-sector collaboration to reduce defense fragmentation.

CSAn is seen as a facilitator of collaboration rather than a policy maker. Some criticisms focus on data-sharing risks, governance transparency, and uneven regional representation. Proponents argue it accelerates practical security improvements through shared knowledge.
