COXgátlásával refers to the inhibition of cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes. Cyclooxygenase enzymes, specifically COX-1 and COX-2, are responsible for the synthesis of prostaglandins. Prostaglandins are lipid compounds that play a crucial role in various physiological processes, including inflammation, pain sensation, fever, and the protection of the stomach lining.

COX inhibitors are a class of drugs commonly known as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). These medications work by blocking the activity of COX enzymes, thereby reducing the production of prostaglandins. This reduction in prostaglandins leads to the therapeutic effects of NSAIDs, such as pain relief (analgesia), reduction of fever (antipyresis), and suppression of inflammation.

There are different types of COX inhibitors. Non-selective COX inhibitors block both COX-1 and COX-2. While effective for pain and inflammation, blocking COX-1 can lead to side effects like gastrointestinal irritation and bleeding because COX-1 is involved in protecting the stomach lining. Selective COX-2 inhibitors primarily target COX-2, aiming to reduce inflammation and pain with a potentially lower risk of gastrointestinal side effects. However, concerns have been raised about the cardiovascular risks associated with some selective COX-2 inhibitors.

The decision to use COX inhibitors, and which type, depends on the individual patient's condition, medical history, and potential risks and benefits. They are widely used to manage conditions such as arthritis, headaches, menstrual cramps, and various other pain and inflammatory states.
