COCPs, or Combined Oral Contraceptive Pills, are a type of birth control medication taken orally. They contain synthetic versions of two hormones, estrogen and progestin, which work together to prevent pregnancy. These hormones primarily prevent ovulation, the release of an egg from the ovary. They also thicken cervical mucus, making it harder for sperm to reach the egg, and thin the lining of the uterus, making it less receptive to implantation.
