CEarvot

CEarvot is an open-source software framework intended to support the collection, processing, and visualization of environmental data. The project focuses on interoperability, reproducibility, and scalability for climate, weather, and geospatial analyses.

Its architecture is modular, comprising data ingestors, a processing engine, a rules-based validator, a workflow manager, and a web-based visualization dashboard. CEarvot supports common data formats such as NetCDF, GeoTIFF, CSV, and GeoJSON, and adheres to CF conventions and OGC standards to facilitate data sharing and integration.

CEarvot began as a collaboration among researchers across several European institutions in 2020. The first public release appeared in 2021, with subsequent major updates in 2022 and 2023 that expanded plugin ecosystems and cloud deployment options.

Applications include climate risk modeling, drought and flood monitoring, urban heat island analysis, forest cover change detection, and agricultural yield forecasting. The framework is used by universities, government agencies, and non-governmental organizations to perform reproducible analyses and develop dashboards for decision makers.

Governance is coordinated by the CEarvot Foundation, which oversees a technical board and a user council. The project is released under an open-source license (MIT) and welcomes community contributions, documentation improvements, and plugin development.

Reception has been generally positive for its emphasis on interoperability and reproducible workflows. Some users report performance challenges with very large datasets, prompting ongoing work on parallel processing, caching, and deployment optimizations.
