CA7
CA7, commonly written CA 7 or CA-7, is a mainframe batch job scheduler used on IBM z/OS systems. It automates the submission, sequencing, and monitoring of batch jobs across one or more central or distributed environments, helping organizations manage complex batch windows and dependencies. CA 7 operates alongside IBM's Job Entry Subsystem (JES) and can coordinate with other CA Technologies or third-party tools to optimize batch processing. Key features include dependency-based scheduling, calendars and holds, event-driven automation, workload balancing across sysplex or multiple systems, automatic restarts on failure, and comprehensive reporting and alerting. Jobs are defined in CA 7 with attributes such as dependencies, calendars, resources, and conditions; the scheduler triggers jobs based on time, events, or the completion of prerequisite jobs, and can automatically re-run failed steps.
History and status: CA 7 was originally developed by Computer Associates and later became part of CA
