Butino

Butino is a fictional mammal species created for speculative fiction and educational exercises. It is not known to exist in the real world.

Description: Butinos are small, measuring about 12 to 18 cm in body length with a short, dense coat that varies from gray to rufous. They have rounded ears, a short tail, and large, reflective eyes. A pale ring around the eyes and a characteristic stripe along the back are often described in depictions.

Habitat and ecology: In the imagined ecosystem, the butino inhabits river valleys and mangrove fringes on the fictional Valorian archipelago. They are primarily nocturnal and solitary, foraging for seeds, tubers, fruits, and small invertebrates. They store food in cheek pouches.

Taxonomy and etymology: In fictional taxonomy, Butino is the common name for species in the genus Butino, family Butinidae. The name is said to derive from the Butini language of Valoria, meaning "little wanderer."
