Bungo
Bungo refers to a type of Japanese short-tailed sheepdog, also known as the Kai-inu or Kumano-inu. These dogs are native to Japan and were historically used for hunting and guarding. Bungo are medium-sized dogs with a sturdy build and a naturally bobbed tail. They typically have a dense, double coat that can come in various colors, including black, tan, red, and brindle. Their temperament is generally described as loyal, intelligent, and courageous, making them good companions for active owners. Bungo are known for their strong prey drive and require regular exercise and mental stimulation. They are not as widely recognized internationally as some other Japanese breeds like the Shiba Inu or Akita, but they hold a special place in Japanese canine history. Efforts are underway to preserve and promote the breed.
